Nearly 200 alumni and friends of Stanstead College turned up on campus Saturday for Homecoming 2024.
The day began with a small ceremony commemorating a tree in front of Colby Hall in memory of longtime teacher and advisor Peter Ashworth. Speakers former students and colleagues who remembered Mr. Ashworth, including Director of Advancement Jesse McRae, who had Mr. Ashworth as an advisor and yearbook supervisor.
Following the ceremony, alumni registered, mingled and gathered for a barbecue lunch. This was followed by the official opening of Wolfe House, with former head of school Michael Wolfe on hand.
"Like this residence, Mike Wolfe is a solid piece of work," said Mr. McRae, "sound, practical, modest, deeply immersed in the traditions of the school and filled with Spartan pride."
In his remarks, Mr. Wolfe said he was completely overwhelmed, extremely proud and very humbled by the honour.
"I want to be sure that everyone knows that the Wolfe name here is not about me," he said. "It’s about my parents - Elgin and Bev Wolfe - who provided me with every opportunity possible when I was growing up. I wish that they could have been here today. It’s about my brother Matt Wolfe and my sister Caryn Wolfe. My in-laws, Alan and Bev Sharman, who are here today. It’s about my kids Campbell Wolfe - Class of 2012; Riley Wolfe - Class 2016; Haley Wolfe - Class of 2024 and also Mauricio Lopez and Trofim Godochkin - both Class of 2024 as well."
Mr. Wolfe paid special tribute to wife Amy, "the best wife, mother, heads’s spouse, and friend anyone could ever have."
"I simply could not have done the job as head of Stanstead College for 18 years without her," he said. "As she will be stepping down after over 20 years here at Stanstead College I want to tell her again that I love her and let her know how proud I am of her and of her contributions towards the Wolfe legacy here at the school."
The afternoon was then filled with sports, starting with senior boys and girls rugby versus Chateauguay Valley Regional, both teams piped onto the field by our own Andrew Blair.
Meanwhile, the Amaron gym saw a game of alumni basketball, while over at the Pat Burns Arena, former members of the girls hockey team gathered for the first-ever alumnae game.
This was all followed by a reception at the arena lounge.
